Acknowledgments

My heart is overflowing with gratitude for the talented individuals who helped me bring this book to life. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and the same goes for creating a cookbook, but to do both at the same time takes an exceptionally stellar support system.

To my agent, Steve Troha, and my editor, Julie Bennett, thank you both for your excitement about this project and for your dedication to giving it the perfect home at Ten Speed Press. I am humbled to work with such an amazing team and appreciate the support from the whole crew at the Crown Publishing Group and Penguin Random House.

Thank you to photographer Nicole Franzen, food stylist Lillian Kang, and prop stylist Christine Wolheim for bringing my recipes to life with your vibrant and engaging photographs! I also want to thank Josh Solar for taking my author headshot.

A big thank-you to Natalia Rose, for providing me with a fresh perspective on detoxing and the true measure of health food, so that none of us will ever have to worry about falling prey to a fad diet again. And to my friend and mentor, Doris Choi, thank you for inspiring me with your kitchen creativity and uniquely vegetable-centric palate. I consider myself lucky to have trained with such brilliant women.

To my readers and fans, this book wouldn’t be possible without your daily visits, comments, and emails. You all help keep my creativity flowing, and I am forever grateful for each and every one of you.

To my volunteer recipe testers, thank you for bravely trying my kitchen experiments, both good and bad, and for providing such honest and thoughtful feedback. These recipes are better because of you! I couldn’t have done it without the help of Matthew Saladino, Teija Cheung, Courtney and Tucker Gilmore, Heidi Gardner, Zeb Wells, Adam Clayton, Jason Berger, Morgan Cline, Sara Maples, Karen McNellis, Mike McNellis, Kristina Saladino, Heather Peters, Sarah Mann, Andrea Henry, Jen van Vlymen, Karen Tassone, Laura Sloofman, Denise Haun, Jessica Taboada, Shelly Waugh, Megan Morales, Alyssa Shrum, Susan Nee, Erika Farmer, Sarah Gillis, and Terry Roche. And a special thanks to my youngest taste testers, Charlotte, Finn, and Beckett.

To my parents, words can’t thank you enough for your constant love and support. To my dad, for teaching me that I should strive for work that I love and that also provides a service to others; I am grateful to you for keeping me grounded while also helping me aim for the stars. To my mom, thank you for setting a glowing example of patience and kindness, for being an incredible mother and doting grandma, and for always being just a phone call away.

To Yasha, thank you for being a steady source of love and companionship for the past eleven years. I know I can always count on you for an enthusiastic greeting (in the form of a tail wag) and for keeping my kitchen floors clean, whether I want you to or not.

To my son, though you won’t remember it, you have been by my side every step of the way, strapped snugly to my chest as I chopped hundreds of vegetables and bracing yourself every time I had to run the noisy blender (which you are now quite accustomed to). Your arrival into this world has given me even more reason to prioritize the health of our family, and you have brought more joy into our lives than I could have ever imagined. I love you, little guy!

Finally, to Austin, you are, without a doubt, the best husband, partner, and father to our child that I could have ever dreamed of. Thank you for always turning my tears into laughter, for acting as my ever-present sounding board and my (sometimes reluctant) taste tester, and for always supporting me no matter what. You make me a better person, and I am lucky that I get to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you.
